Advocacy

The Arc takes a person and family centered approach in its advocacy efforts, while helping persons with disabilities become self-determining as their own advocate.

Individual advocacy takes many forms and is available to investigate suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, discrimination, mistreatment, even unkindness toward people with disabilities, as well as to improve insufficient services or supports.

Systems advocacy is practiced to impact residential, educational and vocational systems and to build the capacity of the business, social/civic, religious, medical, legal and justice communities to include people with disabilities. Local, state and federal policy and funding matters are routinely taken on as advocacy causes of The Arc.

The Arc of Moore County recognizes the inherent rights of all persons, including those with disabilities, to participate fully in the communities and to have choice in how they live, work and play.
